Spring Carnival 2016

Last Saturday was the annual Spring Carnival at the kids' school. Bunny came in town to join in on the fun, but of course I didn't get a single picture of her (or me).

Ava's class performed an adorable song in Spanish to the tune of "Oh, Susanna." They had to dress in western attire complete with boots, and we only had a week's notice. Luckily, Ollie's boots were a perfect fit (thanks, Rach!).

After the show, it was time to play and eat. Not pictured: the homemade cheese pupusas that Bunny and I inhaled. So good.

Ry wasn't quite sure what to think of his first sno cone. (To his credit, it wasn't Sno Beach.)

Small plastic toys, on the other hand, were totally his jam.

As always, it was such a fun afternoon.

Easter 2016

This year we hosted Easter at our house for the first time ever. Of course the week leading up to the holiday was insane at work (par for the course these days), but I still managed to decorate the house a bit (in part thanks to leftover decor from Ava's birthday party). I also had lots of help with the cooking thanks to my little sous chef.

I mean...making mini quiche is serious business.

The kids woke up to fun Easter baskets on Sunday morning.

And then it was time to see what the Easter Bunny had brought.

Ava came away with quite the haul.

Rylan, on the other hand, was perfectly content with a few eggs filled with chocolate bunny grahams.

With Rylan down for a nap, we set up for brunch with Josh's parents and the Lockwoods.

The kids' table...

I couldn't resist buying these adorable bunny poppers.

And the adults' table...
The spread...

We had lots of brunch fare on hand, including three varieties of the mini quiche, mini chicken & waffles, and mimosas (duh).

After brunch, it was time for the cousin egg hunt. Each kid had a color, and it was a race to collect all 12 (props to Tori for the activity and for even color coordinating the contents).

Checking out their goodies...

We clearly had to test out the parachute toys from the upstairs patio.
Then it was time for some cascarones (the Shepherds are from San Antonio after all) and bunny poppers.

Rylan finally woke up and was ready to join the party.

The weather could not have been more perfect, and it was such a wonderful Easter Sunday.

It doesn't get much better than that.

About Me

My name is Catherine, but most of my friends call me Cat. I was born and raised in Austin, went to TCU, and ended up in Dallas for law school (where Josh and I met). I decided that being an attorney was not my cup of tea and pursued a career in legal marketing. I am now a mother of two attempting to balance family with a full-time job, which is always an adventure. I love: my sweet babies, handsome husband, very large family, and fabulous friends; trying new restaurants; wine; TCU football; holidays; cooking; The Bar Method; pajamas; Topo Chico; reading; coffee; Central Market; carbs; the beach; mani/pedis; Anthropologie; binge-worthy TV shows and podcasts; trivia; French 75s; Pinterest; cheese boards; The Ticket; dancing; Sprinkles cupcakes; The Texas Rangers; fresh flowers; thunderstorms; naps; Tex-Mex; the Texas Hill Country; porch-sitting; ranch dressing; throwing parties; and my job. I hate: working-mom guilt; snakes; heights; waking up early; ignorant people; stomach bugs; paper cuts; green fruit; snoring; bad hair days; the sound of people eating (Misophonia); scary movies; bad drivers; pulpy OJ; trimming baby fingernails; and Miracle Whip. That pretty much sums it up.
