Home Is Where the Art Is

Some of our best friends moved to Austin last week, and we are all going to miss them like crazy. But I'm just glad they A) didn't move that far away, and B) moved to a city that we visit fairly often.  

Before the Arnolds headed Southbound on 35, Lolly had all the girls over to her house for a wine and craft night. Her thought was that we would all paint something to hang in our homes that would make us think of each other every time we saw them. 

We were originally going to do a painting night at one of the local Painting with a Twist type places, but we didn't like the options available for the nights we were all free. So Jill suggested this craft she saw on Pinterest. 

The first step is Mod Podging on a background. Lolly used old sheets of music. 

It wasn't until after it was all glued down that Lolly noticed that she included the word "breast" twice. We may or may not have giggled like middle school girls upon discovering this. 

The next step is putting down the stickers for whatever you want to spell out. 

Some of us decided not to Mod Podge anything on the canvas (mainly because we didn't have anything that went with the theme of what we wanted to paint), so we started with the sticker/tape step. 

Then it was time to paint over the stickers/tape. 

Lolly's mom even got in on the action. 

Then it was time for the paint to dry. 

While we were waiting for the paint to dry, we poured some more wine and busted out the dessert.

 I'm not sure what we went through more of that night...wine or Mod Podge. 

On second thought, we definitely went through more wine. Please see...

 Exhibit A: Lolly accidentally spitting out her dessert on the floor and Jill's back (and yes, many dirty jokes were made at this point...but this is a family-friendly blog). 

And Exhibit B: Lolly dancing with a (very large) ruler, and Sarah showing us what the Harlem Shake is really supposed to look like. 

Luckily we were sober enough to focus on the task at hand. And once the paint was dry, we peeled off the stickers. 

(Note that we discovered that it is better to take them off before the paint is completely dry.)

The finished products were really cool. 

I made "Sucio" and "Limpio" paintings for the laundry room. (That means "Dirty" and "Clean" for all the non-Spanish speakers out there.)

We had such a fun night that I almost forgot Lolly (and Lane and Henry) was about to move three hours away. 

But as the great Winnie the Pooh once said, "How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard." 

Love these girls. So much.
