State Fair 2018

As is tradition, we made our annual trip to the State Fair of Texas this fall. We only had one weekend day to spare, so we were determined to make it work despite rain in the forecast. It was muggy as all get out, but the rain stayed away long enough for us to enjoy a wonderful day at the fair.

First thing on the list: take a picture with Big Tex.

But don't let this happy photo fool you...the ones below better depict how things went. #SixGoingOnSixteen

We quickly found the midway for games and rides before it got too hot outside.

Who needs a growth chart at home when you have annual State Fair height pics?!

It's a good thing one of their parents isn't afraid of heights.

Of course we enjoyed a plethora of fair food items, from breakfast to dinner.

I had to get my favorite Cuban Rolls.

And I also tried a few new items: Fried Chicken & Waffles, Fried Texas Hill Country (a fried green tomato stuffed with mozzarella and topped with honey and a balsamic glaze), a wine flight at Trio, and Fried Peanut Butter & Jelly.

They were all good, but the fried PB&J was out of this world delicious. I'm still dreaming about it.

We didn't see any shows this year, but we did explore the grounds a bit and of course made time for the petting zoo (which was in a much larger and air conditioned building this year...hallelujah!) and the Little Hands on the Farm exhibit.

It was a very long, very sweaty, very filling, and very fun day. #FairDaySuccess

See you next year, Big Tex!

About Me

My name is Catherine, but most of my friends call me Cat. I was born and raised in Austin, went to TCU, and ended up in Dallas for law school (where Josh and I met). I decided that being an attorney was not my cup of tea and pursued a career in legal marketing. I am now a mother of two attempting to balance family with a full-time job, which is always an adventure. I love: my sweet babies, handsome husband, very large family, and fabulous friends; trying new restaurants; wine; TCU football; holidays; cooking; The Bar Method; pajamas; Topo Chico; reading; coffee; Central Market; carbs; the beach; mani/pedis; Anthropologie; binge-worthy TV shows and podcasts; trivia; French 75s; Pinterest; cheese boards; The Ticket; dancing; Sprinkles cupcakes; The Texas Rangers; fresh flowers; thunderstorms; naps; Tex-Mex; the Texas Hill Country; porch-sitting; ranch dressing; throwing parties; and my job. I hate: working-mom guilt; snakes; heights; waking up early; ignorant people; stomach bugs; paper cuts; green fruit; snoring; bad hair days; the sound of people eating (Misophonia); scary movies; bad drivers; pulpy OJ; trimming baby fingernails; and Miracle Whip. That pretty much sums it up.
